Microdermabrasion Skin Rejuvenation Procedure

microdermabrasion-antiagingJust because microdermabrasion treatments are gentler than chemical peels and other deep exfoliation and skin resurfacing procedures, it does not mean that you won’t be expected to make adjustments post treatment. Just as with other similar treatments, a microdermabrasion machine facial treatment strips the skin of its topmost layer. This layer usually consists of dried up skin cells that have also taken the brunt of sun exposure and damage. Once you’ve undergone skin abrasion with a diamond-tip microdermabrasion machine, younger-looking, softer, and more supple skin will be exposed. You can also feel some minor tenderness (imagine a very mild rug burn) and your skin may display some redness depending on your sensitivity and how your treatment went. This particular skin rejuvenation procedure has been touted as pain-free, non-invasive, and having no need for a recovery period. This is not necessarily entirely true. Depending on the abrasion you get (and the doctor or technician) and your own skin’s sensitivity, you might be required to lay off the cosmetics for a day or so. Some people have been led to believe that they can put on makeup right after microdermabrasion. While there might not exactly be any prohibition on cosmetics immediately after treatment, it is not recommended. What is definitely and strongly endorsed is the use of sunscreen. Sure, we’re all told to apply sunscreen anyway for daily living but imagine what it’s like for newly exposed skin. Without the layer of protection that sunscreen delivers, the microdermabrasion facial will either prove useless or even harmful. New skin will be more susceptible to the sun’s harmful rays and can get easily damaged or worse, be more vulnerable to skin cancer. Microdermabrasion can truly deliver many benefits and it does so in a much less invasive way as other procedures do. But, in the end, without proper post-treatment care and overall vigilance, no professional or at-home microdermabrasion or any other sort of skin peeling can have long-lasting effects without the aid of sun protection.
