I have found that our Mac Community can sometimes overlook other solid technology in favor of our solid Apple technology. Case in point, the Apple iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy smart phone. We all love our iPhones, but the Samsung Galaxy smartphone made many heads turn of late and with good reason. For that reason, I was very interested when I heard that Samsung has released the Galaxy Camera.
Let’s look at some of the features in the new Galaxy Camera. The camera has a 21x optical zoom with lots of shooting modes and options for video, and has 8GB internal memory. (It accepts microSD cards for up to 32GB external memory.) The display is a large 4.8 inch HD Super Clear LCD, and the overall size of the camera is just over 5″ wide and nearly 3″ tall. It also has a built-in speaker and a headphone jack. The majority of controls are found on the touchscreen using Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and 3G or 4G mobile Internet connectivity along with Wi-Fi. Another advantage of smartphone technology is the Voice Control option, which allows you to control a number of functions such as “Zoom in” and “Shoot” through voice.
There is also a “Best Face Feature” that allows you to travel back in time after you’ve taken a picture to replace faces with the perfect moment. Use it to open eyes, replace a smile, or find that perfect expression. With the combination lightning fast burst shots and facial recognition, you can simply tap a face that’s looking the other way, and tap again to replace it with expressions taken moments before the actual shot.
The main reason to love this new Galaxy camera is for the connectivity. Straight from the Galaxy Camera, you can connect, upload, share and even post to your favorite social media sites. The sharing functions allow you to with any Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note within 200 feet. It will locate Samsung TV’s, laptops, or other devices on the same network that are ready to receive the photos and videos. The Galaxy Camera is available on the AT&T and Verizon networks and your wi-fi to upload to cloud services and any major social network.
There is a great video I saw by James Franco that explains the major features in a way that can only be described as unique. Please take a moment and watch the video, I am certain that you’ll be as excited as I am to get my hands on the new Samsung Galaxy Camera.
