The BT400G5 Bluetooth Headset from Radtech

@ 10:17 am.

I’ve been playing around with Bluetooth headsets now for several years. I’ve had two of them, the BT400last one being a Jabra 250. They worked, but the sound quality was poor and the reception was mediocre. They were not real comfortable and they only worked well with my phone, not my Mac. I think I found the answer for Bluetooth headsets, and it was with a company that I trusted since I bought my first Mac, Radtech.

The BT400G5 Bluetooth Headset from Radtech is not that ground-breaking of a design idea, it just seems to put several ideas together that make the whole headset concept much more palatable. The first thing I liked about the headset was that it did not have an earpiece that plugged into your ear, but rather a small speaker that aligns in front of your ear and does a good job of passing along audio without having that uncomfortable plug shoved into, and constantly slipping out of your ear. Next the BT400G5 has a separate piece that hooks to your ear, they call it an ear-loop, it’s smaller and not as uncomfortable as hooking the whole headset over your ear. The piece can be flipped over so you can wear the headset on either ear with no change in the way it feels. The ear-loop also has a built in ring for attaching a lanyard if needed.

It works like any other Bluetooth headset works, handsfree for answering, ending and initiating calls. Voice-dialing for initiating calls by speaking the name of the party you wish to phone (requires voice-dial capable phone or device). But what really makes it a great headset for us Mac users is multi-pairing which allows the headset to be paired with two devices simultaneously, an incredibly useful feature which allows use with two phones, or one phone and one additional device. Great if you carry two cell phones, or need to use a cell phone and a Mac-based audio conferencing application like Apple’s iChat, Gizmo, or Skype. It’s just easy to keep it on and use it when you need to make a cell call and then turn around and use it for a Skype call.

Let’s look at the main feature list of the BT400G5.
Lightweight, compact and comfortable design - wear on right or left ear.
Supports Headset, Handsfree, Voice-dialing and Multi-pairing protocols.
Can be paired with two devices simultaneously - use with phone and computer!
Low audio distortion level assures you’ll hear and sound your best.
Built-in Li-Polymer rechargeable battery - A/C charger included.
BT Class II - 10 Meter free space wireless range.
Respectable 250 hour standby, and 5 hour continuous talk time
Requires Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, Apple Bluetooth Software v1.5 and Apple Firmware Updater v1.2

For only $64.95, this is another example of Radtech’s commitment to Mac users everywhere. They continue to bring us unique, functional, and good looking products at a great price. If you’re in the market for a Bluetooth headset, you need to give Radtech’s BT400G5 a look.
