Like a lot of people, I’ve been coming to the slow realization that I need a way to organize my digital life. Gone are the days when the sum total of the “data” on our computers was a 5 1/4 floppy of WordPerfect files. We now store documents, pictures, sound files, video. My bills arrive in my email box and I’m constantly bombarded with snippets of digital information I need to record or lose. Quickly it becomes overwhelming.
I tackled this in phases. It started out with a series of nested folders and has graduated to Yojimbo and Yep databases. This week I took a look at a newer entry in the data management game, EagleFiler.

“MailSteward Pro will automatically select all of your Apple Mail app email accounts to be archived, and create an empty MySQL database named “myemaildb”. So all you have to do is click on the archive button, and MailSteward Pro will begin copying your email into the database.”

One of my all time favorites MailSteward has updated, so that now you can schedule it to archive your email automatically.
“Archives can be scheduled either by days of the week, or by months and days of the month, and they can be scheduled for any specific time of day. After setting the scheduling options, clicking on the Schedule button will put an entry into your crontab file, which will tell the operating system to run MailSteward at the specified time and dates. MailSteward will then automatically archive email beginning on the date of the last email in the database file. As always, any duplicates will be skipped. The scheduling options can be changed at any time. Changing the options will replace the MailSteward entry in the crontab file.”
I have reviewed the application several times before so I wont do that here, suffice to say that I think you could do a lot worse than take a look at their demo.

Mail Steward ($49.95) is one of those products that Tim would love “You know how I love Mac software that’s simple to use and functional, this is one of those programs” As for me I am still new enough to this Mac stuff to be in awe of the simplicity of the installation, set up and use of virtually every application, so if I say it installs exactly as you would expect from a Mac application you will know what I mean.
